Wait, when are we doing what? [16 May 2012|09:25am]
[ mood | anxious ]

My mom called me on Monday. "You DO remember that we're going to Mamian's on Wednesday, right?" Well… no, no I didn't, I had no idea. I was thinking that it was about time to go see her again (we go every month), but I had absolutely no idea we were going on Wednesday. Thanks for the… heads up?

My mom called me again on Tuesday. "Okay, so I got tickets for that art festival. The book thing should be all days, but you should probably double-check. We could go in the evening on Thursday or Friday, or I guess on Saturday? But Thursday would probably be the best." WAIT WAIT WAIT WHAT? I know you said that there was going to be the art festival thing and that they're having a book exhibit and maybe I'd like to go, but after that it was "I'll email you some information about it so you can think about it." How did THAT become "now I have tickets for us, when are we going?" I'm not really… complaining, it's just… confusing. I think I'll enjoy going to this art festival, but what if I was absolutely swamped with work? There would have been no way I could have come!

I think it's just the assumption that I find funny. "You DO know we're going" and "I got us tickets" totally assume things 'cause I had NO IDEA. It's a bit frustrating, but mostly amusing. =3

Work has been very, very slow lately. I haven't had any "real" work since last week. It's given me tons of extra time to work on cosplay stuff which is FANTASTIC, especially with Fanime right around the corner, but it is also driving my crazy. It's times like these that I realize my life truly revolves around my work. I don't know what to do with myself if I don't have work to do. I complain about having little free time, but once I get it, I'm at a loss on how to spend it! I got excited yesterday because I one little correction on one Psyren page. And all this break time makes me really worried that I'm going to get a dozen scripts all at once and they'll all be due at the same time, a couple weeks from when I get them. Ahhh!!!! The stress of it is killing me! I think part of what's tough with this is that it's not like I'm on vacation or anything, I still have to be read to work at the drop of a hat. I'm constantly checking my email and I KNOW I have scripts coming, I just don't know when they're coming. And the waiting is the worst part.

Neuro's Head. [11 May 2012|10:13pm]
[ mood | productive ]

I meant to post this a while ago (and by a while I mean almost a year ago), but things got busy and I got lazy. You know, the usual. I had taken all these pictures while I was making my Neuro bird head last year and figured they might be helpful if anyone else was interested in making it (or something like it).

Worksafe 'cept for some language. 40 pictures.
There's a whole lotta failure in here )

Doodles: All sorts of randomness [18 Apr 2012|10:05pm]
[ mood | blah ]

I have a bajillion doodles I've never posted from the last six or nine months, so… I'll just post them now. Huge variety of things, mostly fan art, but some original character stuffs too. Mostly low quality.

This is about how all the pictures look.

30 pictures. All worksafe. Almost all silly things. )

Adam Jensen and his Easter Egg [09 Apr 2012|04:22pm]
[ mood | artistic ]

Happy Late Easter!

Nur and I went to my parents' place on Saturday to dye eggs, which my mom hid before we came back on Sunday morning to hunt for them. =) It was fun, but I really failed at finding eggs this year. I only found two.

BUT THE EASTER EGGS I DYED WERE AWESOME. THE MOST AWESOME! …okay, they were all very stupid, but I had SO much fun making them.

Warning: Too many pictures of Adam Jensen and an Easter Egg.
Our amazing eggs, and Adam's favorite of the bunch )

Beckon?

One problem to the other [30 Mar 2012|03:39pm]
[ mood | BLURGH ]

Kidney Stones suck. Possible TMI? )

But not all is annoying! I've been watching a lot of Let's Plays recently and have come to love a bunch of new games. I may ramble about some of them later, but here are some of my basic thoughts on 'em:

-Deus Ex: Human Revolution: I loved it to pieces. The stealth options were really cool and the story was interesting. I wasn't thrilled with the ending(s), but overall I really enjoyed it. I recently bought the game and hope to play it soon. Adam Jensen is my spirit animal. ♥
-Deadly Premonition: Honestly, I had little expectations for this game. The graphics aren't very good, the gameplay looks wonky and some squirrels in the beginning make monkey sounds! But slowly and surely, I absolutely fell in love with it. The character you play as, Francis York Morgan, is SO WEIRD, he's fascinating!! And I'll definitely be trying a Sinner's Sandwich soon.
-Rising Zan: The Samurai Gunman: LMAO, THIS GAME WAS SO STRANGE. Lots of fun to watch though. XD
-Uncharted 1-3: Wow wow WOW. Beautiful games that look like a blast to play. Nathan Drake is such a lovable bastard. And Sully! OH THAT SILVER FOX. I didn't care for him much in the first game, but by the end of the third game, he was challenging Nate as my favorite character of the series. I am very, VERY excited to buy these games myself and force Nur to play them so I can fangirl about them all over again.
-Assassin's Creed: Not gonna lie, it's pretty but sorta boring to watch. I hear 2 is a lot better, so I'll "force" myself to get through the first one. I'm only maybe a fifth of the way through, so there's plenty of time for it to get awesome. =3

If anyone has any suggestions on which games to watch next, I'm all ears!! I want to get through more of the original Deus Ex (I started it but never continued) and more of the Legacy of Kain games, but I'm in no rush for those two.

Persona 4 Doodle Log Part 2 (of 2) [12 Mar 2012|06:07pm]
[ mood | satisfied ]

The doodle log continues! (First part can be found here.) The rule goes every day I played Persona 4 I had to doodle one picture for it. Effort varies pretty wildly, but they definitely all fall into the "low quality" section.

Warnings: Worksafe, minor swearing. Spoilers from about June to the end, but most are pretty low-key. When there are big spoilers, there will be a warning.

More Exciting Tales of My Family [28 Jan 2012|10:19am]
[ mood | stressed ]

Gather round, my friends, for I have tales for you!

When my mom taught some 40 minutes away from home, my siblings and I would go with her. We were taken care of by the mother of two of her students. This woman, Mamian, is probably the best, most loving, most caring person in the world. Did I mention she's the best? Because she is. There is no doubt that she was my second mother. When I was in fourth grade, my mom decided to teach closer to home, so we stopped seeing Mamian on a daily basis. Not wanting to sever the connection we had with her, my mom (to this day! Thanks mommy!) gets haircuts out there every month or so, so we can spend time with our second mommy.

Unfortunately, with Alexandra in college and now overseas, and with Noah's strange work schedule, I'm usually the only one who can make the trip. This was the case for the most recent time.

This thing is ridiculously long, poorly written, and very VERY whiny.
Cut for length (so so so long), whining, ranting, swearing )

In other family blow-ups, it's totally okay for my uncle and dad to complain about taxes, but I should shut my mouth because I have no idea what I'm talking about. It's not like I have to pay taxe— Oh wait, I do. Four times a year. Yeah. But really, not like I understand how it feels to suddenly have the government decide that you owe $12k more than they themselves predicted and will make you pay a fine because you made more than they thought, right? Yeah! Oh… OHHHH WAIIITTT, THAT DID HAPPEN! How crazy! But to be honest, it's not like I have to pay property tax and stuff, so I'll quiet down a bit. What's that? Tax deductions? Yeah, I can deduct a lot of things because my job is pretty much my life, so that's really nice. Books, programs, trips places (when they include buying supplies for work)… Okay, yeah, here we go, gonna chew my ear off on how it's "not right" to deduct some of these things even though my tax preparer encourages me to write off MORE than I do. Ugh.

My life is pretty boring [27 Jan 2012|09:35pm]
[ mood | bored ]

Been watching Seirei no Moribito with Nur because I was finally able to get my hands on the first BluRay set (after having it on order for months from a couple different places). We're about 2/3 through and it's just as good as I remember. And such a visual feast! I love it to bits.

After a bunch of rounds of corrections, I finally sent in final (fingers crossed) files for a BL book I had been working on. Sent in files for X/1999 vol 3 as well, so hoping those all go through alright. Been working on Psyren v11 between corrections, and it's coming along well enough. Haven't really been rushing on it because it's not due until June. Platinum 5 is at the licensor right now, so not much to do for that. Really, I'm just going slow until I get scripts for things due soon. I'm afraid everything I'm waiting for file and/or scripts for will come in all at once. But what can I do until then? I'm just going to relax, work on Psyren v11, and enjoy life.

With work in a bit of a slump, I SHOULD be working on my costumes for Fanime, but Persona 4 is still demanding my attention. I'm so addicted to this game it's ridiculous. My excuses for not working on cosplay (mainly the lack of supplies or references) are quickly being remedied, so soon I'll have to find a balance between P4 and cosplay during my free time!

Persona 4 is still delicious. Maybe more delicious than it was last week. It had me laughing so hard the other day I thought I was going to be sick. My train of thought while playing the game right now is pretty much "KANJI KANJI KANJI," but WHAT CAN I SAY? IT'S (fictional) LOVE.

Started rewatching Sacred Seven. Since Bandai isn't going to be putting out new releases, the chances for Sacred Seven to come out on BluRay here are significantly slimmed and I was hit with a great sense of sadness. Unfortunately, that sadness led me to check if the limited edition Japanese release of the first disc came with a box. And it did. And cards with Alma on them. I do LOVE me some Alma, so yeah… ordered it. I'm not itching to suddenly buy the other BluRays for it and I don't care all that much if I get the limited editions of all of them (just needed the first because ALMA and BOX), so I'll try to pick up the discs second-hand next time I go to Japan. I will probably order the Night movie, even if it is just a rehashing, because… no, I don't have any good reasoning besides "WANT IT. NOW." It doesn't release until April, so not breaking the bank all of a sudden, thank goodness.

Yeah, that's pretty much everything going on in my life right now. Pretty boring.

Persona 4 Doodle Log [20 Jan 2012|08:57pm]
[ mood | nerdy ]

A couple months ago I started playing Persona 4 (finally). I decided that I should follow the same self-imposed rule I used with Persona 3 (a million years ago, and wow I need to beat it still….); doodling something for every day I play. Because of work and the holidays and all sorts of things I didn't have much time/drive to play, but the last week or so has been a flurry of P4 activity. I. FREAKING. LOVE. THIS. GAME.

Warnings: Worksafe (though there's a bit of swearing), P4 spoilers through mid-June.

Opinions, Please! [13 Jan 2012|01:47pm]
[ mood | working ]

I'm trying to get some work done, but I'm not seeing eye-to-eye with my editor's notes on some corrections involving the direction/orientation of sound effects. I'd like to try to discuss it with my editor, but since I'm the one that put the sound effect on the page, I'm afraid that I'm too biased to tell if "my way" is truly easier to read or not.

Under the cut are two pictures. The sound effect on each one is "VWOORSH." If you have a moment, could you please look at the pictures and tell me one which of the two pictures "VWOORSH" is easier for you to read?

Poll Closed, thanks!

How did you get interesting, Guilty Crown? [12 Jan 2012|09:09pm]
[ mood | curious ]

This anime season has some nice surprises. I'll ramble about all that some other time.

But last season's stuff!!
>Un-Go: Ended AWESOME, imo. Loved it, hope there's more, want to see episode 0 like burning.
>Phi-Brain: I'm a bit behind, but NNNGGGH PUZZLE TIMEEEEE~♥ It's silly and fun and that's all I care about with it.
>Guilty Crown: SUDDENLY IT GOT REALLY INTERESTING. I still like Shu a lot, I think he reacts very realistically for someone in his position. Not saying everyone would act the way he does, but I know I would act very similarly (until he does awesome stuff), so I feel like I "get" him or something. I feel like the story has finally started to get interesting. I think the series has a ton of potential and now I have hope it might get really, really good. But who knows. I don't want get my hopes too high though, hahahahaha.

I started watching Tears to Tiara the other day. Had no idea what it was about (bought it on a whim for something like $10 for the whole series), but I'm pleasantly surprised. I'm only 10 episodes in, but it's interesting enough and I like most of the characters. I don't think it's amazing and I'm not going to go out of my way to get people to check it out, but I'm enjoying it.

Movies, movies, so many movies! [04 Jan 2012|05:50pm]
…Okay, not so many movies.

Over X-mas and the days following, I went to the theater 4 times over 4 days. It was the most I've been to the movies in about a bajillion years. I get really antsy when I watch movies in a theater because I've trained myself to multitask while watching things, so I feel like I should be doing something in addition to watching. But… I had a great time watching these. Maybe it was because I was sort of angry about working while everyone around me celebrated the holidays and I was jealous. I wanted to relax and have fun too! (I would have been able to totally take work slow and easy, but I got a script on X-mas eve, and the book was behind schedule, so…)

All these are pretty much spoilerless~

Sherlock Holmes: Game of Shadows
The big local paper gave this movie the WORST review I have ever read. The reviewer hated it so much I think his review said something about it not deserving the little picture that represents lowest possible rating the paper gives. Whoa. Later it was #1 in his list of 10 Worst Movies of 2011. Anyway, I went into this movie expecting little and was rewarded with a fun movie with some cool action. I didn't think it was as good as the first and I thought parts were pretty obvious if you have a tiny inkling of Sherlock Holmes knowledge, but I didn't watch it for a deep and thoughtful movie. I was quite happy with it. And Stephen Fry as Mycroft! NNGGHHH SO GREAT! I looooove Mycroft, I was soooo happy he was in the movie and STEPHEN FRY EEEE. The fanservice was quite nice as well... THE DANCE AT THE PARTY. GAH.

Mission Impossible 4: Ghost Protocol
I had no interest in this movie, but my brother was all excited to see it, and my parents' neighbor came over on X-mas and said how awesome it was, so I went to see it with my family. And because my neighbor was insistent on it, we watched it in IMAX. Wow, what a cool movie. Seriously, very cool. I hadn't seen a Mission Impossible movie since… the first one, maybe? (First Tom Cruise one I mean, I don't know if there were any old school ones.) There were so many awesome parts and a good amount of humor. Beautiful filming didn't hurt either. The tower climbing in Dubai? UNF, so great. I'm pretty eager to get the BluRay for this, if just to oogle at the scenery and in hopes that they will have awesome extras about the filming. There were only two things I didn't like much about the movie: it felt a wee bit too long and not all of it was filmed in IMAX.

The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn
I had to see Tintin again. I HAD TO. So three days after I saw it the first time, I went with Nur and Alex and saw it again, but this time in 3D. I was really nervous that I would find it boring the second time, but on the contrary I fell even more in love with it. And knowing the story allowed me to see all sorts of neat little Easter Eggs throughout the movie. I am absolutely DYING for the movie to come out on BluRay/DVD, and I'll probably end up going to see it again before it leaves theaters for good.

Redline party, Un-Go, work, an' stuff. [18 Dec 2011|09:02pm]
[ mood | happy ]

Thank-you [info]jen_kat for the lovely card! ♥

Yesterday a bunch of awesome people came over to watch the awesome movie Redline. I had so much fun, thank-you to everyone who came! I hope we can do something like this again soon. We went out to dinner, watched Redline, watched silly/stupid/awesome videos, and tried to play Oregon Trail. We named our team after Tiger & Bunny characters (Agnes led the team of Kotetsu, Barnaby, KeithJohn, and Yuri). Kotetsu died not one minute into the game, Barnaby died shortly after we lost all our clothes, and Yuri was sick when we had to stop playing because we couldn't get the second part of the game to load. OUR POOR PATHETIC TEAM! We even had to shoot a couple of Rock Bisons to keep Agnes, Yuri, and KeithJohn alive. (P.S. To the people who were over last night but haven't seen T&B yet, you can watch it free and legally here!! EVERYONE SHOULD AT LEAST CHECK IT OUT! …but the trailers are pretty mehhhhhh, don't judge the show by them.)

Got all the fabric I needed for Inga's panda hat and I finally drafted a pattern. I cut out everything in some extra fleece and pinned it, but I didn't feel like sewing it today. Tomorrow, perhaps. I made a pattern for Plush!Kazamori and cut all those pieces out too. Both the hat and Kazamori are going to be olive green and white, so they'll look weird, but they're just test pieces. If they do turn out, I'll post the patterns for anyone interested. (That's a big if though!!)

Work has been good… it was really busy for a while, I had something like five volumes due over six or seven weeks. To get a sense of how INSANELY CRAZY THIS IS, generally I can work at a good pace and finish a volume in two weeks. I lucked out and was able to get a volume of Tegami Bachi done in less than a week and a volume of X done in four days. FOUR DAYS! Of course, that's because that X volume was like A GIFT FROM THE GODS and was EASY BEYOND BELIEF. The other three books were pushed back because of troubles getting files for them. It means I'll be scrambling to finish them when the files do come in, but it's very nice right now. I was able to get the next volume of Psyren done in the mean time, which helps clear up a bit of time later. I should be starting on my first SuBLime title this week, and I'm very excited about it.

I went into San Francisco on Friday because I had to pick up the tankobon for Pokémon Platinum v5. I do all the text-lettering in InDesign, so I need to keep a close eye on the tanko when placing pages. Placing Platinum pages is sooooo frustrating too… the proportions of the physical size of the tanko and the Viz version are different! The Viz books aren't as wide, so it makes it difficult to find a happy medium. No matter what, stuff on the sides gets cut off (although the Viz books have a bit more image on the top and bottom of the pages!). But yeah, went into the city after having a nice breakfast with my brother and dad, got curry from the JapaCurry truck (SO GOOD), and headed to J-Town. Finally picked up the last calendar I had my eye on (the extremely expensive but extremely gorgeous Nurarihyon no Mago one) and a handful of books (other than Platinum 5). Thank goodness I get 10% off with my membership card and had a $15 off coupon, or else that trip would have been a lot more painful! X_X After that, I headed to Viz and got to talk with almost all my editors. I get to work with such wonderful people, I'm so lucky. I met an editor that I'd like to work on a certain title with, and it looks like I might be able to! The series is super cute and I'm really excited, but I haven't signed a work order or anything for it yet, so no guarantees that I will get to work on it. I'm not going to say the title because I don't want to jinx this!

I'm thinking of finally changing my layout… I used to change my layout four times a year (once for every school quarter + summer), but life has been busy and I have been increasingly lazy, so I've had my current Birdy the Mighty layout for… 2+ years? Maybe I'll just work on cosplay instead. Hahahahaha…

I'm going to make some sort of massive post about Oumagadoki Dobutsuen and why it is totally awesome and why everyone should read it and then cosplay it soon. Here's a spoiler for it: I FREAKING LOVE THIS SERIES TO PIECES, OMG.

Bro and Gijinka 2012 Calendars ON SALE NOW [30 Nov 2011|03:03pm]
[ mood | refreshed ]

All my ducks are finally in a line and both calendars are complete and ready for order!

This year there are two calendars available!

BRO CALENDAR - Available here!
-This is a calendar to celebrate that close relationship between characters… unrelated to each other, but as close as siblings. 12 artists, 12 sets of bros from 12 series. Enjoy!
-Series included: Nurarihyon no Mago, Mononoke, Mushishi, Kamen Rider W, Tiger & Bunny, Dengeki Stryker, Secret Six, Aeon Flux, Ao no Exorcist, Skip Beat, Kaiji, Akagi, Gungrave, and No. 6.

GIJINKA CALENDAR - Available here!
-A year filled with gijinka! Gijinka are human versions of non-human characters. Each month shows a different character from a different series! This is a group effort, with many different artists lending their time and skills to it!
-Series included: Pokémon, Happy Tree Friends, Fairy Tail, Kekkaishi, Adventure Time, My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, Nadia: Secret of Blue Water, Sgt. Frog, Yu-Gi-Oh! 5Ds, Animal Land, The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker, and You Are Umasou.

You should be able to preview the entirety of each calendar on their product pages.

Each calendar is $15.00. This is a NOT FOR PROFIT calendar, although the price is slightly higher than last year. The increase is to help cover the costs for the production and shipment of calendars for participants. If somehow enough calendars are sold to cover those costs, any other money earned will go to charity (and I will provide proof if desired). I'm not sure if the discount only applies to the project account holder, but the more you buy the lower the cost should(may?) go, so if you have any friends that are interested, try to order together to save some money. Also make sure you go to RetailMeNot and search for coupons for Lulu. Usually you can save a fair amount that way.

I do have a handful of Bro Calendars on hand for Bay Area people who would like to pick them up from me. These will be available for $12. I will have a few Gijinka Calendars available for the same price in approximately a week.

Please do not sell these calendars at Artist Alleys unless you are either a calendar contributor (then by all means, please go ahead!) or get permission. Thank-you for your understanding!

Calendar Contributors: Most of the Bro Calendars should be on their way! Gijinka Calendars should be shipped out in about a week. If you don't get your calendar within the next three weeks or if your calendar is damaged when it arrives, please let me know and I will send you a replacement!

Thank-you, everyone!
