I still have tons to do before Fanime, but for some reason I feel so nice right now... like everything will go my way and life is awesome. It's such a nice feeling. I'm slowly inching forward on my Maka costume. I painted the connector from the blade to the pole today, so all I have to do is touchup and detail work. I do not want to try to paint Soul's eye, no-sir-ee. I cut out the black fabric for he back and front of the jacket, and I went downtown to get a fabric to use for lining. I can make this jacket in my mind and it's not hard, but I've actually never made a jacket before. I'm a little nervous. My second backup harddrive, Kaiji, froze as I was copying stuff over today and after I force-ejected him, he wouldn't show up anymore. I sure hope he's just being temperamental. Gurren-dan cape woes [09 May 2008|07:39pm] [ mood | blah ] I worked for a while on my cape today. The main part of it is done, I just need to put the collar, buttons, and cord on it. I had a collar on it, but it was way too small... and I don't want to put the rest on until I know for sure where the collar will be ending. Alas, I wanted to finish it today. Tomorrow I'll start Maka's coat, so I'll just finish up the cape when I find the time. Maka is more important! I wanted to paint Soul Eater today, but I couldn't find the sandpaper to sand down the primer coat. Bah. I'll have to pick some up on Sunday and paint it then. Oh! And the ebay person I ordered my wig from sent me a second one. They're the same color and style, and I only paid for one... should I just send the other one back? Deal a Card?

Well, that's done. [06 May 2008|12:20pm] [ mood | Meh. ] I took a midterm this morning for my "Freedom and Equality in America" class. It was a writing test, we had four short answer ("dump all your concrete knowledge on subject X") questions and one opinionated essay. Each section allowed you to chose between one of two prompts. So, section one: talk about how Europeans saw Native Americans? Check. Section two: talk about Madison's fears for the future of the country through Federalist Papers 10 and 51? Uhhh, sort of check. Section three: talk about the cultural elements that emerged in New York during the second quarter of the nineteenth century? Cheeeeccccck! Section four: Discuss why slave-owners believed their relationship with their slaves was "paternal." FREAKING CHECKITY CHECK CHECK. I was feeling pretty alright about those. But then I get to the essay. I get to chose between something about Madison and his Federalist Papers and Whitman's views in "Song of Myself" and why they are or are not compelling. WHAT. Way to take the TWO topics I can barely talk about because I don't like and don't care about (I think they are boring). Ughhh. I remember a fair portion of "Song of Myself," but it was all the stuff on one main theme. So, I just talked for a couple pages on how I like Whitman's views but they are impossible to achieve and therefore cannot be compelled by his reasoning, however sweet it may sound. I actually think my arguments were pretty well written, but I was scraping the bottom of the barrel for references from the poem. I totally skipped over "Song of Myself" and the Federalist Papers while studying, because what was the chance of both essay questions being on them? Heh. Well, not too much use worrying about it now. Now that my midterm is behind me, the only things I really need to focus on this week are Viz work and cosplay work! I'm so happy! =D Deal a Card?

WHAT? Orichalcum is done? [03 May 2008|07:26am] [ mood | good ] After months and months of work, many hours of sleep lost, and too much time spent doing menial stupid tasks, Orichalcum is finally at the printer, and only a month later than planned! Nat and I sent it in yesterday afternoon. There is one little slip-up, but I won't say what it is. If you get a copy, you'll probably be able to find it. I'll post more about availability of the book later. The last week or so has been pretty insane. There's just a lot of stuff going on. Most of it was Orichalcum-related, so that's behind me. I have a midterm Tuesday and the next chapter of my senior project due Tuesday, but I don't know if I want to work for them. I'm so ready to take an okay grade in the class I have the midterm in and enjoy the remainder of my last quarter. The senior project chapter should be pretty easy, and it's only the first draft, so I'm not worried about it. I think I just want a break from senior project/school-related work right now. So, so, so, I've been watching Monster during my meal breaks. I've been reading the manga as Viz releases it (it's SO hard not to read ahead online!), but I had only seen the first episode of the anime. That needed to be fixed. Unfortunately, I'm not a very patient person, so I just couldn't sit through the first big chunk of the series. No, I needed to skip ahead to episode 40, where Grimmer comes in. Oh man, Grimmer. Ye gods do I love him. He's so tragic, and he often brings me to tears or close to tears, but I think that makes him a really interesting, awesome character. So many tears have been shed for him this week! But, somehow watching him deal with his... issues, and admitting/seeking assistance for said issues really makes me feel good inside. Dammit Grimmer, you give my love for Geischt a run for it's money. Man, Urasawa's works make me get so attracted to characters so outside my usual type. I love it. Holy crap, the same guy that did the music for Keaton did the music for Monster. No wonder it's so amazing. ♥ Also, it has been determined that Tenma and Keaton are so totally cousins. I wish I always had Baccano! dreams. [28 Apr 2008|07:05am] [ mood | amused ] Whoa. Really weird, really cool dream. Baccano! wasn't an animated series, it was live action. It was more like "live action," because it looked like it was an anime, but I was in the studio as they were filming it. They were doing some tests with different lighting. The director said that at first he had planned everything to be under a pink light, but was messing around and found a cool combination of colors to use. I was trying to take pictures, but once filming started, everyone else wanted to take pictures and they were taller. So, I couldn't take any. I looked around and saw the Pussyfoot behind me. It was pretty small (maybe half-size?), but it looked like a real train. I started inspecting it, looking to see if they had made an actual train or if they had just adapted one. I was trying to take pictures of the train when this guy with a knife ran past me. I guess Issac and Jacuzzi were hanging around the director, who was near me. He told them that this would be good practice for their characters, so get into character and chase down the guy with the knife. They took off after the guy, and I of course followed. Jacuzzi was pretty fast, so he was way ahead. But I guess the guy threatened him, because we came around a bend and he was crying on the ground. (I totally thought, "Wow, he's in character now!) Issac asked him if he was going to let the guy push him around like that and Jacuzzi wiped away his tears and ran after the guy again. Issac and I followed. (I really didn't DO anything in the dream, I just followed and watched, like some sort of stalker-ghost.) We came upon a dark, old warehouse and went inside. There were two Jacuzzis. One was little Jacuzzi, one was regular Jacuzzi. The little one had been knocked against the wall, but had succeeded in knocking the knife away from the guy. The other Jacuzzi picked up the knife and the guy ran away. Nice came in from the other side of the warehouse and complimented both Jacuzzis. Regular Jacuzzi gave little Jacuzzi the knife, and all these little kids ran into the warehouse. Little Jacuzzi showed them the knife and they started complimenting him. "Oh wow!" "You did it!" "This is a cool knife!" "You're awesome!" I thought, "Ah, so this is how he got his gang." ....and then I woke up. 7 Cards Dealt|Deal a Card?

[27 Apr 2008|09:53pm] [ mood | good ] After hanging around /cgl/ most of the day, I decided to finally upload some pictures for some of my older cosplay, starting with my Ed costume. I really don't have any good pictures of that costume currently at my disposal, so I was just going to post some of the lame ones I did have... and cosplay.com decided to rotate them. Whaaaaat? I thought my image programs might have been somehow properly rotating the images so they looked right when I viewed them or something, so I brought them all into Photoshop, and nope, they're all oriented the right way. Cosplay.com is just filled with fail right now or something. Speaking of cosplay, I finally got all the paint I need (hopefully) to paint my scythe. I'm hoping to have the blade painted within the next week. Jesse and Juli helped me pick what colors to use for what on my Gurren-dan cape too. Sweet. And I got the sunglasses for my Black Suit outfit. I just need a black tie and that one will be complete. Finally, my cosplay plans are actually going someplace! I'll post about last night's MnA meeting later. Too lazy now. ( Kurenai 4 Spoilers, OMG ) It's been really hot today and the heat drained me of the will to do anything productive...
